Latest Leroy releases

A Santenay and Côte de Beaune-Villages Pinot Noir from 2003

Lalou Bize-Leroy is one of Burgundy’s greatest names and talents. For her négociant arm, she hand-selects and nurtures each wine. The latest duo of releases are further proof of her talents – a pair of 2003s that defy the year’s heat.

These elegant wines, a Santenay Rouge and Côte de Beaune-Villages, are now perfectly mature yet still have plenty of life. The Santenay is wonderfully fragrant and balances the richness of the vintage with a lovely mineral salinity. The Côte de Beaune-Villages, meanwhile, is like silk, full of rich fruit and drinking beautifully.

Maison Leroy is one of Burgundy’s most sought-out and respected négociants. Madam Lalou Bize-Leroy hand-selects top wines to be released under the label, following extensive ageing at the estate. This 2003 Santenay Rouge was released in 2021. Darker in colour than the 2003 Côte de Beaune-Villages tasted alongside, the 2003 Santenay has a fragrant and delicate perfume of dried petals, perfectly ripe red berries and tertiary notes. On the palate, it’s concentrated with a beautiful balance between the richness of the vintage and its mineral backbone. To finish, this beautifully aged Pinot Noir offers hints of salinity that support the length, this is drinking now but should evolve nicely for another 10-15 years.

Maison Leroy is one of Burgundy’s most sought-out and respected négociants. Madam Lalou Bize-Leroy hand-selects top wines to be released under the label, following extensive ageing at the estate. This 2003 Côte de Beaune-Villages was released in 2021. Light garnet in colour, the wine offers a subtle nose and needs a few minutes to open up. Savoury notes lead the way, followed by rich red fruit and hints of dried orange peel. On the palate the wine is delicate, with silky and fully integrated tannins, offering a nice persistent finish. This wine is drinking beautifully now and will do so for the next five to 10 years.
