Tasting notes
Brilliant ruby. Intensely perfumed red berry liqueur and floral pastille scents are complicated by suggestions of five-spice powder and smoky minerals. Juicy and pure, offering intense raspberry and lavender pastille flavors that become deeper and expand with air. Shows a distinctly elegant character, finishing with supple tannins and an extremely persistent floral note.

100% Grenache, age 57 years. Sandy and safres soil (compact sand) on the lieu-dit Les Bédines. 19 hl/ha. In foudres for 15 months. Aromatic red and dark-red fruit. Really juicy, the tannins less noticeable than on the Tradition, quite a different style, with a delicacy that then reveals more spice on the finish. (JH)
The 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape les Safres offers more kirsch, strawberry and orange rind characteristics, as well as more sweetness of fruit than the classic cuvee. Medium to full-bodied, supple, sexy and seamless on the palate, it’s a beautiful wine that should be at its best from 2017-2025.
