About the wines of the Southern Rhône
The southern Rhône, home to the Pont d’Avignon and the notorious Tour de France ascent of Mont Ventoux, may only be separated from the Northern Rhône by a matter of miles but they are a world apart: heading south of Montelimar, the landscape becomes much more arid, windswept and, well, distinctly Mediterranean, with the smell of Provençal herbs wafting in the air.
