The 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Chevrieres 1er Cru comes from Chaintré, located upon east-facing soils where fruit tends to ripen more slowly. It has a subtle nose that demands some coaxing, almost reluctantly revealing Clementine, green apple and blood orange. The palate is well-balanced with a slightly honeyed opening. This displays fine concentration, one of the most complex Premier Crus from Merlin, and there is impressive persistency here. Excellent.

Cask sample. Floral nose and quite rich on the palate. What people would expect of a Pouilly-Fuissé, I think. Just a tad fat. (JR)
