Known as Mâcon or the Mâconnais, this southern section of Burgundy – not far from Beaujolais – is famous for its Chardonnay. While much of the wine is simpler, earlier-drinking fare, the best sites – especially those from Pouilly-Fuissé’s Premiers Crus (introduced in 2020).
Taking its name from the city of Mâcon, which lies between the chicken mecca of Bresse and the cow capital of Charolais, the Mâconnais is known for its Chardonnay.
