Tasting notes
Coming from the most northerly aspect of the range, the 2022 Old Vine Series Skurfberg opens with a waxy nose and notions of dusty yellow apple and Meyer lemon with white melon. Medium-bodied and with 13% alcohol, the palate reveals a fine mineral tension with a delightful kiss of sea spray before displaying a classic, food-friendly phenolic bitterness. The wine glides into a long, lingering and subtly spiced finish. Only 4,200 bottles were produced.

Chenin Blanc from Citrusdal Mountain. 23 hl/ha. Ageing 12 months in big, old oak casks . Subtle, slightly elusive pear-drop and grapefruit-rind aromas, more stone fruit than citrus though with an undertow of lime blossom, flint and quince. Aromatically expressive but a little evasive on the palate. Given the ageability of Chenin from the site, worth waiting for the mid palate to evolve over time. (MF)
About the producer

Since he started making wine under his own name in 2000, Eben Sadie became a cult name in South Africa. The Swartland producer is best known for his flagship Columella and Palladius, but he also makes a range of whites and reds under the Old Vine Series, which became the District Series in 2025.
