Tasting notes
From soils of iron rich sand, the 2017 Champagne Chemin de Reims Extra Brut is also 100% Chardonnay. The nose is broad, with more peach and yellow orchard fruit, flowers, and tangerine. There is a richer mineral structure on the palate that feels angular and is also saline and long, with orange pith and savory richness. Drink over the next 10 or more years.

The Extra-Brut Chemin de Reims, 100% Chardonnay from Merfy, is a dense, mineral, savory wine. The more muscular side of Chardonnay comes through in this potent, brooding Champagne. The Chemin de Reims is the most structured and most 'red-wine feeling' of the Alexandre Chartogne's Chardonnays. It requires time and attention, as there is a lot of wine here. Aeration brings out the wine's compelling interplay of fruit depth and minerality. Disgorged: February, 2022.
