Tasting notes
The 2012 Brut Millesime William Deutz Pinot Noir Meurtet, from vines in Ay, is bright, floral and beautifully lifted. The richness of the year becomes evident as the wine sits in the glass. Pear, white flowers, sage, mint and a kick of spice are all nicely layered. Bright, chalky notes lend focus, extending the finish effortlessly. What a gorgeous Champagne this is.

The 2012 Meurtet Brut is clear, fine intense and fruity but so delicate on the nose. Rich and powerful on the palate, maybe a bit too much, this is an elegant, refined and persistent Pinot Noir from Aÿ. It's well structured and very long. Impressive, but you have to match it. Tasted from LM 116D19918 in February 2019.
The 2012 Brut Blanc de Noir Parcelle d'Aÿ Meurtet Hommage à William Deutz is showing nicely, offering up aromas of warm orchard fruit, honeycomb, desiccated orange rind and subtle hints of praline. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with crisp acids, an elegantly fleshy core and good grip on the finish. This derives entirely from Deutz's holdings in the climat Meurtet in Aÿ.
A bit nervier on the nose than its stablemate La Cte Glacire. Excellent tension and neatness. Strongly Pinot-perfumed. Long and nuanced, with a fine balance between fruit and structure. This seems really distinguished, and very persistent. There's a certain light smokiness.
