The 2012 Pouilly Fuissé Terroir de Vergisson marks its final appearance, since next year Olivier is planning single-vineyard bottling, with a mind upon the prospect of premier cru status eventually being granted by authorities. “The vines here tend to ripen slightly later than Fuissé, although there is a lot of variation between one parcel and another,” Olivier said. It has a more austere bouquet, well-defined and stonier than the “Terroirs de Fuissé” at the moment. The palate is structured and complex with touches of dried mango and white peach, hints of shaved almond and hazelnut coming through with a very intense, pixelated finish. What a fabulous wine, but it deserves a couple of years in bottle.
