Tasting notes
The 2004 Macon-Chardonnay Clos de la Crochette explodes from the glass with multitudes of ripe yellow plums and white peaches. A deliciously creamy, soft wine, it coats the taster’s palate with its ample layers of yellow fruits. Drink this decadent effort over the next 2-3 years. Dominique Lafon’s eyes light up when he talks about his Maconnais estate, to the point that one senses he loves the challenge of doing something new, of starting something from scratch, after so many years of concentrating on the family’s Meursault estate. He feels that for whites the main issue in 2004 were “huge yields, those who were able to control them, whether in Meursault or the Maconnais, could do well.” Importer: Daniel Johnnes/Jeroboam Wines, New York, NY; tel. Rather closed, but powerfully clean and fresh on the mid palate. Moderate length. This new cuvée form a historic vineyard in the village of Chardonnay is even more mineral than Dominique Lafon’s other Maconnais bottlings. (JH)
