Score 87/100 · Pierre Rovani, Dec 2005

Larmandier-Bernier’s dusty mineral-scented 2000 Cramant Grand Cru Vieille Vigne Extra Brut (degorge en Juillet 2004) is light to medium-bodied and focused. Its linear character reveals notes of flowers (lavender), slate, chalk, and powdery minerals. Importer: Terry Theise Estate Selections, imported by Michael Skurnik Wines, Inc., Syosset, NY; tel. (disgorged in July 2004) Light gold. Toasty and earthy on the nose, with aromas of ripe melon, pear and apple accented by toffee, marzipan and hazelnut. Full and quite rich, with a chewy, almost thick texture and spicy flavors of fresh banana, honeydew and mango. This lingers nicely on the finish, with the exotic fruit notes repeating.
