Islay

Located on the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides, Islay traditionally produced whiskies that elevated some of the world’s most well-known blended malts. In recent years, the small island has produced some of the world’s most lauded single malt whiskies.

About Islay

At last count, Islay boasted nine distilleries, including BowmoreArdbegBruichladdich and the-soon-to-be revived Port Ellen. Many, wrongly, believe all whiskies from Islay are heavily peated. As is the case with all the regions, it is difficult to make sweeping statements on the flavour profile here as each producer has a distinct character but the “classic” notes would be smoke, fruit and a maritime influence.
