2022 Reserve Chardonnay

Samantha O’Keefe’s pioneering estate in Greyton has recovered from a devastating fire in 2019 that destroyed her home and winery, and she continues to be one of the Cape’s most inspiring and talented winemakers. The estate’s shale soils are underpinned by clay. The juice is fermented and matured for 11 months in 500-litre barrels with one-third new oak. The result is a unique and visceral Chardonnay of rare originality and exceptional depth. Jason Millar: Idiosyncratic nose of lemon verbena, lime rind, popcorn and toast. A fresh, ample palate with brioche richness. Andy Howard MW: Intriguing. A deep colour. Palate is vibrant, with crunchy acidity, well-integrated oak and great length. Very individual. Remarkable concentration. Roger Jones: Layers and layers of fruit. This is a sublime wine, but it needs more time. Butterscotch, beeswax, essence of white nectarines and a creamy depth.
