Tasting notes
This has the ripe and generous fruit that we expect from this Beaune, but also touches of blood oranges and summer flowers. Succulent red fruit with an excellent structure of fine tannins and lively acidity on the medium-bodied palate. Wonderful freshness in the positively firm finish. From a vineyard with southwest exposure, hence the name, which means facing the sunset. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Unfiltered. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.

The 2022 Beaune Aux Coucherias 1er Cru was picked just before the September heat waves and made with 65% whole bunches. It certainly has some of the most flattering aromatics among Champy's 2022s, with upfront, vivacious Morello cherries, wild strawberry, bergamot, and sous-bois scents soaring from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, quite citric in style, with touches of marmalade and tangerine infusing the red fruit on the finish. This represents a worthy follow-up to the previous vintage.
0.9 ha (2.2 acres). Certified organic (Ecocert) and biodynamic (Demeter). Mid-dark ruby. Slightly moody dark-raspberry and cassis nose. Lots of concentration. Drinking well already and quite moderate in alcohol. Quite high tannins creep up on the finish, but this is very accomplished. Depth, balance, intensity. (MH)
