Tasting notes
The 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Coucherias is supple and suave, offering up aromas of sweet red berries, plums, orange rind, rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and elegant, with lively acids, melting tannins and a long, cinnamon-inflected finish, it has turned out brilliantly.

The 2020 Beaune Aux Coucherias 1er Cru, from the climat that I can never pronounce correctly, includes 65% whole bunch, which is neatly disguised on the nose that offer dark plum, blackberry, briary and almost flinty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, quite edgy and tensile, a little angular in texture towards the finish with wonderful vitality and backbone. Again, there is an almost Pommard-like structure but there is still plenty of elegance here.
West-facing red clay with steep aspect. 70% whole clusters. Cask sample. Plush. Red and black fruits. Big fruit, big wine. Dark-red cherries. Deceptively drinkable now, certainly worth waiting a couple of years to blossom. (MH)
