Garnet core. More evolved in aroma than the Clos du Marquis just tasted but still with dark fruit and a touch minty. Juicy and lighter-bodied, just enough depth of fruit to balance the acidity. Tannins still firm. (JH)

The 2014 Moulin-Riche has simple red berry fruit mixed with cedar and earthy notes. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, light tannin with a dry and rather innocuous finish that does not really take you anywhere. It just feels rather ordinary. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. A little sweet, muted and sweaty but certainly pleasing and easy. No rough edges. Quite flattering. (JR)

The 2014 Moulin Riche is a very pretty wine from the sister estate of the Cuvelier family, who also own Leoville-Poyferre. Medium in body, with good underlying structure, the 2014 offers notable complexity and nuance. Smoke, tobacco, licorice and a host of dark-fleshed fruit notes confer a measure of gravitas. The blend is 53 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 27 % Merlot and 20 % Petit Verdot.
