The 1995 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Honivogl was opened to demonstrate age-ability. Dried fruit and intense lemon, even lemon oil, appear on the nose of the golden wine. The palate has waxiness embellished with dried fruit, especially sultana and beeswax. There is distinct ripeness, but this is a dry wine with absolute concentration and the richest mouthfeel. Balm-like presence flows like melted, cool wax; serenity follows, as does the embrace of citrus brightness and creaminess. The length is incredible. (Bone-dry)

Remarkably lively on the nose. Slightly frail. Fading and rather delicate but admirable for its longevity. Quite dry on the finish. The fruit is definitely fading. (JR)
