Score 90/100 · Drink 2014-2025, Matthew Luczy, Wine Advocate, Mar 2025

The product of the historic earthquake vintage, the 2010 Casa Real Cabernet Sauvignon is holding up well, although unlikely to improve. It opens with herbal-driven aromas that meld with remnants of charred wood, cocoa powder and dehydrated black fruit. The palate is soft and luscious, largely defined by velvety, milky richness before concluding with melting tannins. While this is a solid snapshot of the times through the lens of a cool vintage, the remaining bottles are best consumed in the near future.

Tense and lively. Old style but not too sweet. Very concentrated and pungent. (JR)

Opaque ruby. Sexy smoke- and oak-accented aromas of cherry compote, vanilla, mocha and pipe tobacco, with a floral nuance that gains strength as the wine opens in the glass. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering sweet dark berry and cherry-vanilla flavors plus hints of cola and rose pastille. Shows very good clarity and finesse for its power, finishing sweet, broad and very long, with slow-building tannins and an echo of candied rose.

Inky ruby. Dark berries, cola, vanilla and pipe tobacco on the highly perfumed nose. Lush and creamy in texture, offering sweet, floral blackcurrant and bitter cherry flavors complicated by a smoky nuance. Shows impressive energy on the finish, which features supple tannins and a whiplash of smoky dark berry fruit. Built to age; I'd stash this one away for at least another seven or eight years.
