2024 Chevalier Montrachet

Tasting notes
As normal, there’s only one barrel of Alvina’s Chevalier-Montrachet – a stunning wine, especially in 2024, aged in new oak. The new oak is present, felt, but doesn’t dominate the wine’s natural power. It offers layer upon layer of stone fruit, white nectarine, peach skin and succulent apricot, rolling across the palate, cut with lime zest freshness and mouthwatering acidity. There is a spicy intensity, a toasty, creamy quality – but the palate shows sheer mineral power, managing to be both taut yet expressive, with a deliciously juicy quality that absorbs the oak seamlessly. A star of the line-up this year – one that will be hard to resist in youth, but even better with age.

A pale lemon tint to the colour. Elegant hillside white fruit, very Chevalier, with perhaps a tendril of something riper. Does it quite have grand cru intensity? I think so, and it certainly has considerable persistence.
About the producer

Alvina Pernot is one of the most exciting producers of white Burgundy today. Based in Puligny-Montrachet with some incredible vineyards, this is a name to watch – creating taut and mineral styles of white Burgundy.
