Tasting notes
It’s always a treat to taste the “Long Vieillissement” bottling of Clos des Goisses – an expression of the special site kept back and disgorged for later release. The 2000 was disgorged in March of this year (2025). The nose is beautiful – layered with honeycomb, ripe stone-fruit, mineral purity and hints of richer tropical tones, like mango sorbet. The palate combines depth and length, testament to this prized terroir, with waves of oyster-shell purity washing across the palate, alternating with spicy complexity and plump peach fruit. It’s long, deliciously vibrant with a fine mousse and beautifully dry, mineral finish. Blend: 61% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay, with 4.5g/l dosage.

The 2000 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses L.V. is every bit as compelling as it was last year. The 2000 is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Baked apple tart, brioche, pear, tangerine oil and light tropical inflections all race from the glass. The creamy, resonant palate is a thing of beauty. The 2000 is gently aged but also wonderfully fresh—in other words, everything a Champagne of its age should be.
A very generous, high-yielding vintage, Philipponnat had their most significant production of Clos des Goisses in 2000. It was a vintage with very high ripeness, which leaned toward botrytis, but the advantage was that due to the ripeness of the area, the grapes ripened earlier. This allowed them to avoid some of the botrytis issues, as they harvested it two weeks before the rest. Released 25 years after harvest, the 2000 Champagne Clos Des Goisses LV Extra Brut is 61% Pinot Noir and the rest Chardonnay. Only 43,000 bottles were produced, but this vintage resulted in a voluminous wine with flavors of croissant, honey, apricot, and toast. Full-bodied, it maintains fantastic minerality and a chalky texture with refinement. Notes of refined creaminess and delicate pepperiness are present, and it still offers freshness, especially on the palate. The nose features more mature notes, but it's not overdeveloped. It’s long on the palate and should drink well for another decade with no problems.
Absolutely gorgeous golden hue in the glass. Truffle and some mushroom elements on the nose. Quite mature and tertiary right now - in its peak drinking window. Layered and lemony but baked lemon pie with orange zest, high acidity and tiny bubbles. This has plenty of energy for its age with brightness as well as complexity. Ultra refined and delightful. Such a treat to taste such a wine at this point. Juicy, lively, racy, bitter and a touch truffley. Just divine. The first full vintage by Charles Philipponnat who had just arrived at the House to take the general manager position. Dosage 4.5g/L. Tasted twice.
