From three plots in Avize. Pressed 23 September 2016. Tirage July 2017. Disgorged May 2023 after five years. Dosage 5.8 g/l. 2,000 bottles made. Smells like New York cheesecake. Dense and very vinous – white-burgundy-like. Wonderful contours of bitterness snaking through the cream and buttered richness of the wine. Tastes of sour cherries and greengages, of apple yogurt and elderflower blossom. Lacy grace notes pirouetting over hidden power. It’s sure and undulating and quietly commanding. (TC)

The 2016 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Pur Avize Grand Cru was picked in three Avize parcels. The five years on lees were spent under cork. Reduction, for now, owns the nose, but the palate is a beautiful picture of lemon-scented creaminess, backed by gentle and equally lemon-scented notions of Genoese sponge. Lovely concentration unites with light-footed ease, while undoubted depth serves as a backdrop, unobtrusive, effortless but present. This Extra Brut is classic, creamy and bright. What is not to love? Disgorged: May, 2023. - Anne Krebiehl MW

With a brut dosage (less than 12 grams per liter), the 2016 Pur Avize Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs displays a smoky, refined bouquet with aromas of almonds, lemon oil, vanilla, pear and stone fruits mingled with hints of spring flowers. Comparable in style to the Unisson Grand Cru, it’s medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a delicate, pinpoint mousse and a long, penetrating finish. As its name indicates, it’s sourced from vines planted in the village of Avize.
