Tasting notes
A charming, forward, and undeniably delicious wine in the vintage, the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape offers a translucent ruby hue as well as a beautifully perfumed bouquet of ripe red fruits, herbes de Provence, baking spices, and exotic floral notes. Medium-bodied and finesse-driven, it has soft, polished tannins, no hard edges, and loads of upfront appeal. Already drinking beautifully, it reminds me slightly of the 2011 Rayas, only better. It should continue to shine over the coming decade. Drink 2025-2035.

The 2021 vintage presented significant challenges for Châteauneuf-du-Pape, particularly for Domaine du Banneret. In response, Audrey Vidal opted to destem the entire harvest, as some grape varieties had unripe stems. Despite these hurdles, the 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape is a true gem. It reveals a bouquet of peony, red berries, flowers, garrigue and spices, with delicate peppery undertones. Medium-bodied, tense and elegant, it offers a refined core of fruit, bright acidity and velvety tannins. The wine finishes long and seamless, with an ethereal quality that carries a Burgundian character. This elegant wine will age gracefully over the next decade or more.
