Tasting notes
The 2018 Aloxe-Corton Clos du Chapitre 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of what I discerned as slightly darker and more forthcoming fruit compared to the nascent 2019, the menthol element reduced but extant. The palate is a little chewy and more muscular by comparison, grippy, with a well-defined and black plum toward the finish. This will drink extremely well over the next decade.

The 2018 Aloxe-Corton Clos de Chapitre 1er Cru is one of two produced from this premier cru, which comprises around a hectare of vines. It offers wild strawberry, cranberry, menthol and light rose petal aromas on the nose, light damp earthy/undergrowth aromas developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite tightly knit and more backward than the domaine’s other 2018s. A spicy, black-pepper-tinged finish extends the aftertaste. Enjoy over the next decade.
