Tasting notes
All Grenache, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape L'Avenue is a slightly bigger wine, with more black cherry, cassis, sappy garrigue, pepper, and exotic floral notes in its beautifully balanced, layered, elegant profile. Its overall balance is spot on, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a focused, elegant mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. I love it today, yet it deserves 2-4 years of bottle age. You can put this up with the crème de la crème of the vintage.

Crafted from 100% Grenache Noir vines planted on red sandstone, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape l'Avenue offers up a somber character and aromas of spices, garrigue, herbs, licorice and dark wild berries. Full-bodied, concentrated and powerful, rich and structured, it's well-balanced with velvety tannins and a long, powerful finish. This dense wine needs time to chill out.
A single-varietal Grenache first made in 2014, the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape L'Avenue matured solely in old oak demi-muids between three and eight years of age. Red and black cherry, red plum and ripe strawberry mingle with leafy tones and spicy gradations. Engaging the palate with sweet-tasting fruit, the powerful and ambitious 2022 closes with persistence on the complex finish.
100% Grenache. Vinified in tronconic concrete vats. Aged for 18 months in demi-muids. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Sweet candied fruit and mulberry aromas. There is a notable lick of toasty oak on the rich and broad palate. Kirsch and sweet spice, with good texture and density to the opulent core. A layered, ripe, sweet finish. Young and slightly oak-dominated! (AC)
