Tasting notes
The latest release of Henri Giraud’s iconic Argonne is the 2017 – a cool vintage that produced tiny yields, with around half the crop of 2016, for example. The nose is very intense and savoury, with hints of brioche and bruised apple, developing richer caramel and grilled lemon notes in the glass, as well as an almost Madeira-like note. The palate is very generous but fresh and delicate at the same time. The mousse is rich and full-bodied, with round, fleshy stone-fruit shifting to crisp green apple as it drives on through the long, intensely saline finish. Mouth-watering acidity helps to keep everything in perfect harmony. A super stylish and elegant wine with outstanding length, this is very gastronomic and will really shine with food – shellfish would be the perfect match here. Already superb to drink now but will clearly live and continue to evolve beautifully for a very long time. Dosage is 5g/l.
