The 2018 Botmaskop seems a little muddled on the nose, missing the delineation of its peers and coming across quite toasty and in need of more precision. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins, fleshy and cohesive, yet the finish lacks tension and feels a little forgettable.

Bordeaux varieties aged in French oak for 18 months. Classic South African/bordeaux grapes nose. Blackcurrant leaf, green bell pepper, box leaf and black fruit. Ripe, cigar spicy, nicely restrained and polished tannins with good acidity. Not throbbing with excitement but very correct in its black suit and tie. (TC)
