Tasting notes
Disgorged very recently, the rich golden colored 2017 Champagne Blanchien Extra Brut is the same cépage as the 2016 and is gorgeous with the perfume of golden salted pineapple, fresh apricot, ripe red berries, orange custard, and croissant. On the palate, it’s full-bodied but has a lot of freshness. It might not have the same persistence and length as the 2016, but it’s very attractive and has a lovely autumnal sensibility that would be fantastic all through the holidays. The delicate, rounded mousse is more of a pleasant spice accent, and it has a nice touch of warmth on the finish, with a hint of bouillon broth, but it stays on the very pretty side, and although it might not be the longest-lived of these wines, it has a lot of pleasure to offer. Drink 2023-2030. To be released in Spring 2024.
