From magnum. Tasted blind. Mid straw. Smells as though it’s going to be sweet. Grapey flavour and much smoother than the previous wine in this pair (Pegasus Bay, Bel Canto 2011) but not quite as engaging. Lightly bitter on the end, after reasonable concentration. Much more delicate than the previous wine. And a bit less persistent. Not quite a fair fight? (JR)

The 2019 Ried Singerriedel Riesling Smaragd is clear as well a flinty on the aromatic and concentrated nose that shows stewed white peach aromas. Lush and round on the palate but lao crystalline, this is a salty-piquant, rich and tensioned Singerriedel that is made to age for at least a decade. Impressive wine for the future. 13% alcohol. Tasted at the domain in June 2021.
