Tasting notes
(65% grenache, 20% syrah and 15% mourvedre): Lurid purple. Very primary aromas of black and blue fruits, spices and violet. Sappy and focused, with good depth and spiciness to its blackberry and blueberry flavors. The persistent finish shows a slight tartness and leaves a hint of cracked pepper behind.

The spectacular 2009 Vacqueyras, a blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre aged in tank and old wood, exhibits a sensational black/purple color as well as a stunning bouquet of charcoal, burning embers, licorice, chocolate and sweet blackberry and kirsch fruit. As the wine sat in the glass, hints of lavender and Provencal herbs also made an appearance. Broad, savory, full-bodied and stunningly concentrated, it should drink well for a decade or more.
