Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Bernard Moreau’s Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Maltroie 2011 has a well-defined bouquet with stony, citrus fruit – grapefruit and dried apricot, touches of dandelion in the background – a complex bouquet that gently unfurls. The palate is clean and fresh with a citrus spike on the entry. There is good depth and concentration here with a vibrant, quite structured and phenolic finish. This has great potential.

Sweet, polished nose. Fully ripe certainly. Very racy and clean. Lip smacking. Clear cut. Excellent balance and, unusually, some persistence. (JR)
