Wild strawberries, pretty spring flowers, lavender, and Provençal garrigue notes all emerge from the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Begude Des Papes, a beautifully balanced, elegant, perfumed, seductive 2022 that will put a smile on your face over the coming decade or so. The blend is 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 15% Mourvèdre, and it was brought up in 20% new barrels, with the balance in demi-muids and used barrels.
A blend of 70% Grenache Noir, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre sourced from vines planted on the southern sector of the appellation on sandy, calcareous and galets roulés soils, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape La Begude des Papes reveals a floral, spicy bouquet of rose, dark cherries, licorice, bay leaf and dark wild berries. Medium to full-bodied, enrobing and fleshy, it's layered and structured with velvety tannins, bright acids and a long, penetrating finish. Offering plenty of immediate appeal, this wine also possesses the structural backbone necessary for graceful aging.
70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre. Vinified in concrete tanks. Aged in a mixture of demi-muids (20%), new oak barrels (20%), old oak barrels (10%) and truncated tanks (50%). Tasted blind. Ripe red fruits and spiced nose. The palate is sleek, powerful and dense, with a real richness and energy as well. Already appealing and approachable – a crowd-pleasing, generous style. (AC)
