Creamy, heady, dense, flavour-packed wine that seems fully evolved now. Quite long with a peacock's tail flavours. Edge of honey with some green notes. Racy. (JR)

The Earl Grey tea-scented 1999 Riesling Smaragd Hochrain is medium-bodied, tangy, and silky-textured. Minerals, quinine, zesty citrus fruits, and candied white berries are found in this well-delineated and persistent wine. Projected maturity: now-2008. Importer: Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. (773) 334-6700.

Candied lemon, pineapple and lilies in the nose. The mouth explodes with tropical fruits, candied citrus, diverse flowers, and a tactile sense of dusty minerals. Clings superbly, with a plethora of fruits, flowers and stones.
