Score 93/100 · Drink 2024-2031, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2024

Based on 2020, but also including 40% perpetual reserve wines dating back to 2005, the NV Champagne Extra Brut Rosé is 94% Chardonnay, with the rest Pinot Noir from Verzy and Verzenay. Aged 30 months, with 5.5 grams per liter dosage, it pours a medium salmon hue and is very pretty on the nose, with aromas of fresh peaches, candied orange, fresh flowers, strawberries, and delicate pastry dough. Medium-bodied, it has a bit more intensity on the palate, and while it’s approachable, it retains a nice balance of tension and freshness of chalky texture to lift it on the palate, with a hint of spice. The mousse is lively and zesty, and it has a clean finish with a kiss of bitter almond. Drink this charming wine over the next 4-6 years. 30,000 bottles produced. This is my first time tasting the Champagne of Barons De Rothschild. They work with 85 hectares, mainly in Montagne de Reims and in the Côte de Blancs.
