Score 87/100 · Drink 2019-2027, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Mar 2020
The 2018 Riesling Federspiel is the only disappointing wine from Rudi Pichler this year. The nose is clear yet not really clean and reveals a volatile acid aroma as a result of the early September rainfalls. This is the tone that reminds me of the 2014 Alsace Gewurztraminer, which was terribly damaged by the fruit fly. However, this aromas disappears more and more with aeration, while more stone fruit aromas take over. On the palate, this is a lean and elegant yet not very concentrated Riesling with a rather short finish. Tasted at the domain in September 2019.
