The 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune Lavière 1er Cru comprises two one-year-old barrels this year. It has a more perfumed, floral bouquet that the Savigny Village, armed with wilted rose petal and potpourri scents that percolate through the red currant and cranberry fruit. The palate is very silky in texture, with plenty of freshness, but not overly complex, and there is not a huge gap between this and the Village Cru at the moment.

The 2018 Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er Cru Lavières is the second vintage of this new cuvée chez Rouget, and Emmanuel explained that a lot of missing vines have been replanted, so gradually the quality of Pinot Noir genetics in this parcel will improve. Exhibiting scents of cherries, cassis, peonies and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied and simultaneously a bit firmer and a touch less concentrated than the communal bottling of Savigny this year.
