Tasting notes
Full bottle 1,262 g. This is the wine made from a tiny parcel of very old (pre-war) vines at the top of the Achleiten vineyard trained to individual stakes. Pure mineral nose, almost severe, with none of the richness on the nose of some of Prager's 2023s. But on the palate ... kerpow! Such lime-cordial richness and a hint of candied praline as well as baked apple. Really very glorious and nuanced on the end. Already stunning. It just manages to have enough acidity and lift to carry the alcohol and is lightyears on from the first generation of very ripe Smaragd Grüner Veltliners. (JR)

The 2023 Grüner Veltliner Ried Achleiten Stockkultur Smaragd is from the middle reaches of the Achleiten and, as the name suggests, from single-stake vines, densely planted in 1937 and dry-farmed. Beautifully aromatic dried moss and some smoky yarrow are subtly spicy and savory. The palate is super-smooth and very fluid. This seems riper and denser, yet that finesse and grace are there, speaking of white pepper. The finish is rounded and smooth on this almost viscous wine. (Dry)
