Tasting notes
Tense and concentrated nose. Very rich on the palate though it hides its alcohol extremely well. Streak of minerality and only just obviously a BIG wine. Muscular rather than fat. Well done! (JR)

Harvested early (7th-10th of November) by the standards of this bottling the 2006 Gruner Veltliner Smaragd Honivogl is dominated by low-toned aromas and flavors of mocha-coffee, malt, and honey, although notes of snap pea and beet more typical of Gruner Veltliner emerge as it opens in the glass. Satiny, creamy, and enveloping in richness and formidably dense, this vintage of Honivogl still preserves clarity and purity of fruit and real elegance, betraying neither its six grams of residual sugar nor its 14.5% alcohol. Subtly bitter hints of peach kernel in the sedate but long finish here are typical for the 2006s at this address. Look for this to reward a decade or more in the cellar.
