Score 96/100 · Drink 2024-2045, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2024

A bright yellow hue, the 2014 Champagne Chateau D'Avize Blanc De Blancs floats from the glass and feels airy and inviting, with detailed, floral notes of lemon curd and delicate sweet oak of vanilla bean. The palate is medium to full-bodied, rich, and decadent, with a floating feel. Rounded on the palate, with a pillowy mousse, it’s very appealing now but has plenty of life ahead of it to enjoy over the next couple of decades. 2.7 grams per liter dosage. Disgorged May 2024.

More floral and ripe than the 2013, the 2014 Château d'Avize reveals aromas of blanched almonds, flowers, ripe orchard fruits and oyster shell, followed by a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and incisive palate that's vinous and lively, concluding with a long, saline finish. This is a great effort.

Bright, full of intensity, charm and character. Waves of pear, white peach and savoury mango, biscuit and white truffle, concentrated with lift and scrape on the finish. Plenty of persistency to the bubbles. 9ha vineyard, Hervé Jestin cellar master, 2.7g/l dosage.

The 2014 Brut Zéro Château d'Avize, a pure Chardonnay, spent just under nine years on lees. Chalk and melted butter trail lemon on the shy nose, while rounded creaminess, lemon and dried corn husk define the palate with a sense of Savoiardi biscuits. The incredibly fine mousse creates an elegant, creamy yet bright body that shines with subtle depth and a bone-dry finish. This is an elegant proposition, lemony and chalky in equal measure, with a dosage of 2.7 grams per liter. Disgorged: May 2024. - Anne Krebiehl MW
