FX Pichler's 2006 Kellerberg Riesling Smaragd offers a clear, fresh, wonderfully precise and herbal-flavored bouquet of ripe and dried white stone fruit aromas with floral notes. There is great balance between the confit aromas and herbal/mineral flavors. Highly elegant, rich and dense on the palate, this is a gorgeous, perfectly ripe and balanced Riesling with a seductive texture and great mineral expression. This is surely one of the greatest Rieslings produced in the Wachau in 2006. Tasted in Vienna's Hofburg, June 2016.

Deep gold. Spicy and rather heavy and simple – violet cachous. Foot dragging but maybe if tasted in Austria it would seem racier? (JR)
