The 2017 Chablis Montée de Tonerre 1er Cru has a lightly perfumed, smoky nose with white peach and gunflint scents, all well defined and focused. There is just a little SO2 to contend with. The palate is medium-bodied with a reduced entry. A suppressed and slightly bitter Montée de Tonnerre that feels bitter on the finish. Maybe I would give it a couple of years in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a slightly earthier bouquet than the more flattering Mont de Milieu at the moment, just a touch of oyster shell coming through with aeration. The palate is well balanced with noticeable weight and girth, good volume in the mouth with veins of stem ginger, fanning out with confidence on the finish. Very fine, though I prefer the elegance of the Mont de Milieu at this prenatal stage.
