The 2011 Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc has a light nose of grass clipping and lime cordial aromas that are well defined but needs a little more vigour. The palate is well balanced with a touch of lime and peach on the entry and these leitmotifs are maintained right to the finish that is suffused with touches of vanilla and fresh apricot. Drink now-2013. Mike Radcliffe continues to produce very fine wines from his Stellenbosch estate, which also serves as a tourist magnet for the beautiful region. I still feel there is room for improvement in terms of imparting a little more finesse into the reds, but otherwise these serve as great value for money considering their quality. With vineyards at the foot of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch, Warwick Estate is one of South Africa’s most established wine producers. The Ratcliffe family converted the farm to viticulture and started making Bordeaux-inspired blends in the 1980s, including its flagship Trilogy.
