A more tannic and structured wine that still needs bottle age, the 2010 Cotes du Ventoux II Etait Une Fois has terrific purity and full-bodied richness, as well as lots of black raspberry, flowers, spice and earth aromas and flavors. Big, rich and concentrated, give it a decant if drinking anytime soon. It's also interesting to note that this cuvee wasn't made in 2011 as the Grenache was too big and ripe for Sebastien.

Grenache from the 1930s. The aim here is to make a fine Grenache and they have succeeded! Very juicy, lacy, open and fine. Very good indeed. Coming along very nicely. (JR)

Absolutely jaw dropping good and showing every bit as well as it did earlier this year, the 2010 Domaine de Fondrèche Côtes du Ventoux il était une fois (meaning “Once upon a time”) is a blend of 80% old vine Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre that is aged on lees for 12 months. Possesses stunning aromas of raspberry, spice, licorice, and layers of crushed stone-like minerality, this full-bodied, concentrated, voluptuous, yet also elegant effort should be given another 2-3 years in the cellar, and then followed over the next decade. It is up there with the best of the appellation and hats off to proprietors Sebastien Vincenti and Nanou Barthelemy for this rocking effort!

80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre. Very sweet and ripe. Must be grown on a very favoured site... Rich, Châteauneuf style but with a little more fizz on the finish. (JR)
