Score 89/100 · Drink 2015-2019, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2015

Aromas of apple, honey and clove, plus a whiff of porcini; less pure than the 2014 version but considerably fresher than my sample of the 2013 Chassagne villages . Sweet and dense for a 2013, showing a syrupy quality to its fruit salad flavors. A touch of toffee on the persistent finish suggests that this wine should be drunk early.

The 2013 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeots, whose vines are on the limit with Santenay and now sees a little more new oak compared to previous vintages, has a complex bouquet, more introspective than others with honeysuckle and jasmine scents, wet limestone underneath. The palate is smooth and very elegant in the mouth, the acidity perfectly judged and adorned with hints of white peach and brioche toward the finish. Lovely.
