Score 90/100 · Drink 2004-2014, Robert Parker, Feb 2004

Similar in color to the regular bottling, but broader and more expansive is the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vigneronne. It offers up a classic Provencal nose of roasted herbs, sweet black cherries, ground pepper, spice box, and a notion of balsam wood. Elegant yet dense and full-bodied, with outstanding purity as well as a light to moderately tannic finish, it brings to mind a top premier cru from the Cotes de Beaune given its wonderfully sweet, pure black cherry and spice box character. Drink it over the next decade. Importer: Alain Junguenet, Wines of France, Mountainside, NJ; tel. (908) 654-6173

Red berries, minerals and pungent dark chocolate on the nose. Juicy and nicely delineated, with intense red berry and mineral flavors nicely supported but not overwhelmed by the wine's oak element. Firm and vibrant wine, finishing with solid but ripe tannins. Offers excellent potential.
