Score 89/100 · Drink 2003-2007, Pierre Rovani, Aug 2003

Blackberries laden with tobacco and spices can be discerned in the hugely expressive, kinky aromas of the 2001 Syrah Vin de Pays d’Hauterive. A boldly flavored wine, it conquers the palate with oodles of bacon-laced dark berries whose flavors linger in its long, fruit-filled finish. Served blind, I would have sworn this was a top-flight St.-Joseph from the northern Rhone! This superb value should be consumed over the next 3-4 years.
