Tasting notes
Wafting from the glass with complex aromas of tangerine, pear, toasted macadamia nuts, freshly baked bread and white flowers, the NV Extra-Brut L'Extra Or Dégorgement Tardif is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and sapid, with a concentrated core of fruit, racy acids and a fine, pearly mousse. Concluding with a saline finish, it's a blend of a perpetual reserve spanning 2003–2016, and it was disgorged in June 2021 without dosage. It's a terrific effort from one of Champagne's most underrated producers.

The NV L'Extra Or d'Eugene Dégorgement Tardif pays tribute to the domaine's founder who created the cuvée "Carte d'Or" in 1923. It is from a solera installed in 2003 that contains predominantly Meunier with a junior part of Pinot Noir. Disgorged in March 2018, this bright golden colored Champagne is beautifully pure yet intense and elegant on the nose. Dry and mineral on the palate, this wine reveals great finesse but also tension, grip and length. The finish is long, vital and salty, very intense and elegant. This is another great Champagne from Cédric Moussé. Tasted in January 2019.
Solera method. 80% Pinot Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir. 60 months on lees. Dosage 1 g/l. Lovely peachy fruit on the nose. Tart and precise on the nose, with light body and refreshing crispness on the finish. The leesy, autolytic character comes through on the finish. Lingering mushroom notes. A bit more austere than the standard, and I’m not sure I’d want a second glass ... ah, who am I kidding. But you know what I mean. (RH)
