Tasting notes
A 60-40 blend of Grenache and Syrah from Pignan (sud), the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Memora is a more tannic, extracted version than the charming 2015. Black cherries and black olives abound in this full-bodied wine, ending on an elegant note of licorice. Give it a couple of years and then drink it over the next decade.

Limpid ruby-red. Potent, mineral-accented red and dark berry scents, along with hints of lavender and game. Juicy, penetrating black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors deepen with air while maintaining energy. Blends power and finesse and finishes with silky tannins and repeating gaminess.
60% Grenache, 40% Syrah. Cask sample. Similar freshness to their Montplaisir but with more red fruit than black. Very youthful and still a little spritzy on the palate, with rubbery tannic feel and moderate persistence. The purity of fruit indicates good ageability. (RH)
