Lots of black raspberries, spice, peppery garrigue, and assorted Provençal nuances emerge from the 2018 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage A L’An 1879. Medium-bodied, it offers a charming, forward style, light tannins, and solid length on the finish. It’s ideal for enjoying over the coming 7-8 years.

The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape is 80% Grenache, with the balance split between Mourvèdre and Syrah. Hints of tar appear upon opening, but subside and give way to plums, black cherries and hints of black olive and mocha. It's full-bodied and velvety in texture, showing plenty of muscle for a 2018 on the dusty finish.

Tank sample. Tasted blind. Confected black fruit on the nose with sweet spices and milk chocolate. The opposite of austere: this is a fluffy, welcoming style that could easily be enjoyed by itself. Great persistence of fruit on the finish. (RH)
