Half Pinot Noir, half Meunier. All 2011. Held cold in the press for two days for colour and flavour before fermentation to vin clair . On lees in bottle 2+ years. Disgorged August 2015. Dosage 7 g/l. Quite deeply coloured – like orange plums. Packed with red fruit and a touch of sour cherry freshness on the finish. Tastes dry and with the sour freshness of small wild berries. Full flavoured and fine mousse. (JH)

Like the corresponding Brut Nature, half-each Meunier and Pinot (colored via maceration), and all-2010, Falmet’s NV Brut Rose Tentation Disg. 8/2012 is like a juicy, tart-edged red raspberry shrub, with slightly coarse but (naturally) invigorating effervescence, yet a fundamentally satiny texture. A hint of salinity clinches its mouthwatering appeal, but there isn’t anywhere close to the nuanced and compelling complexity of her two other wines that I tasted alongside. I would enjoy this over the coming year. The wines of Nathalie Falmet – a chemist and oenologist who began bottling from her family’s eight acres in 2009 – were among my most exciting first-time experiences in preparing this report. These vineyards are on a belt of Kimmeridgian at the western edge of the Bar – and of Champagne as a whole – and incidentally include some in the village neighboring to Falmet’s, Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises, famous as the birthplace Charles de Gaulle.
