Score 89/100 · Drink 2021-2026, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Apr 2020

Purple and dark ruby in color, the 2016 Leithaberg Blaufränkisch Ried Goldberg offers very ripe and slightly oxidative fruit with good depth and character. Ripe and generous on the palate, this is a warm, round and grippy red with a more southern character. The wine is silky textured and warm, but the oaky and tobacco notes go from the nose to the aftertaste, which is somewhat drying. It's pretty old-fashioned compared to many reds from today's Austria. Tasted in the Austrian National Library, Vienna, in September 2019.
